Forgotten Purrs
The time of ThunderClan, WindClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan and even the Tribe of the Rushing Water have long passed. The old heroes are just legends now, and the Ancient Clans, tales of LionClan, TigerClan and LeopardClan are scarcely remembered. Tales of Clans and Tribes spread from forest to forest, Twolegplace to Twolegplace, and although the rumors quickly spread, the warrior code, the purpose of Tribes and Clans remained the same. Thus, the first leaders came together: Magpiestar, Sunstar, Hollowstar and Mothstar. Although their beliefs and loyalties were divided, they each were strong and proud and knew their destinies: to rule the forest together, to respect one another, and to sacrifice everything for their friends. Now, those leaders, too, have passed, and it's your time to step up an aid in the rebirth of the forest.

If you aren't sure where to start roleplaying a leader, deputy or medicine cat, this guide should help you get into the swing of things.

Roleplaying a leader

Leaders have a lot of responsibility and are generally only roleplayed by our more experienced members. But even for them, leading an entire Clan can be a challenge. So whether you are your Clan's first leader or a deputy being promoted, here's a quick checklist of things to do while you adjust to your new position.

  • Choose a deputy. You can pick anyone you'd like as long as they don't already have a deputy or leader character. It is recommended that you choose someone trustworthy and active, for they also have a big part in your Clan. Take your time choosing, and know that if you leave unexpectedly and don't have a deputy, we will find a new leader for your Clan.

  • Go over territory topics and create new ones if needed. Create borders for your Clan and wrote a few threads as places for people to post in dens. Make sure you have a list of your Clan members and a leader's den.

  • Post! And not just in your own Clan. Go on border patrols, talk to cats of other Clans near their borders. Even trespass, but that won't go uncaught and is against the Warrior Code, so make sure your character is one who doesn't care before trespassing. Keep your Clan alive and roleplay where you can.

  • Catch up on ceremonies. Private message members of your Clan to see if their characters need a ceremony performed. Choose active members as mentors and ask before making someone a deputy.

  • Make plots for your Clan. If you have any ideas, post them in the Plots and Prophecies forum. Remember that the cats in the books fight among themselves, and there is no such thing as a perfect Clan. Keep your Clan active and have fun with it.

  • Lose lives. Your character has nine lives—don't make them last forever! Be generous with losing lives and think as realistically as possible. Clan leaders are the most important members of the Clan, but they also die and are eventually replaced. A leader should place his Clan above all else and be willing to sacrifice himself in an instant for the sake of his clanmates.

Roleplaying a deputy

Deputies don't have as much responsibility as leaders, but are almost as important and should be an active part of Clan roleplay. Here are a few guidelines for what's appropriate in roleplaying a deputy.

  • Roleplay frequently with your clanmates. Deputies are well-known and respected—make sure your character is! Be friendly and obey the warrior code as best you can.

  • Organize and participate in patrols. Patrols are hard to do in roleplay, but still important to Clan life. Assign cats to border and hunting patrols. There are usually 2-3 patrols a day, but it's recommended you plan them all at once. Don't stress yourself out over this: updating patrols once or twice a week is good. Any more than that is a lot of work and not everyone has enough time to roleplay them. If your character is leading or in a patrol, make sure to actually roleplay it instead of just posting the patrols and being done with it.

  • Help plan events with your Clan's leader. Go to the Plots and Prophecies forum to cook up juicy subplots for the story of your Clan. Involve as many people as possible and have fun with your planning!

Roleplaying a medicine cat

Medicine cats are arguably the easier of notable characters to roleplay. They tend to be busy with their herbs and thus less social within the Clan, but should still be fairly well-known among the members.

  • Create a medicine cat's den. This is where your character sleeps and where they store their herbs. Injured or ill cats usually stay here while they are being treated.

  • Learn the basic treatments and remedies. You don't need to memorize anything, but should know the basic cures. Check the Rules forum for a list of illnesses and cures.

  • Go out on herb patrols. You can't have a full stock of herbs unless you go out looking for them. Be sure to stock up if leafbare is coming, and even in newleaf, full herb stores are important.

  • Train your apprentice. (If you don't have an apprentice, don't worry about this.) Becoming a medicine cat takes more training and a longer time than just becoming a warrior. Review herbs with your apprentice, as well as basic fighting and hunting skills in case they're needed.

Hopefully you now have a better idea of how to roleplay your notable character. You're welcome to ask any questions you have. Enjoy your NC! :)
