Customizing Your Profile

Information

This tab contains most of the basic information needed for editing your profile.

Username: Your username cannot be changed without a purchase from our shop.
E-mail address: Your e-mail address can be changed at any time. If you choose to change your e-mail address, a confirmation code will be sent to your new e-mail address. Be sure to check your Spam folder if you don't get the e-mail. A confirmation e-mail will also be sent to your old e-mail, but you are not required to check this in order to activate the new address.
Change your password: By clicking "< Modify >" on this field, you'll be directed to a page that will help you change your password for the Forgotten Purrs website. You'll be asked to enter your old password once and your new password twice.

Referrer: If you were referred to this site by another member(s), this is where you enter their username(s). If you found this site on your own or don't remember who recommended it, feel free to leave this blank.
Gender: At this time, we do not have a gender-neutral option, so for this field you can only select male or female. This is an optional field.
Birthday: You are required to fill this in upon registration, and only moderators can view your birthday and age.
Location: Here is where you put where you are from. This is optional, and you are free to share as little or as much as you feel comfortable.
Job/hobbies: This is another optional field, where you are encouraged to share your interests with other members.
Humor: You may put a joke or something similar in this field. When viewing the member list, other people will be able to see what you've written.
Comments: This is where you can write a little about yourself to let others get a sense of who you are.

Website: If you have your own website or homepage, feel free to link to it in this field. You may also leave your e-mail address here if you are comfortable in doing so.
Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest/ICQ Number/AIM Address/MSN Messenger/Yahoo Messenger/Skype: If you have an account on any one of these website and are interested in communicating with other members on them, leave your username and others will have the opportunity to contact you.

Preferences

This tab has the most influence over your browsing and posting.

Allowing members to contact me by e-mail: Note that answering "Yes" will allow any and all members to e-mail you, not just site staff.
Allow members to send me private messages: Like the above field, selecting "Yes" will allow any member private message you.
Allow visitor messages on my profile: Visitor messages are similar to private messages in that they are discussions between two people, but the conversation can be viewed by other members when they access your profile. Allowing only your friends to post visitor messages will not prevent other members from viewing them.
Allow newsletters: Newsletters are infrequent announcements sent to all members by e-mail. Forgotten Purrs very infrequently sends out newsletters, and all information that would be e-mailed will also be posted in the Announcements section.
Hide my online status: If you select "Yes" for this field, you will appear to be offline at all times. Moderators are able to see when hidden users are online.
Always notify me of replies: When replying to or posting a topic, you have the option to dis- or enable notifications for that topic only.
Notify by e-mail when a new message has arrived in my inbox: This field is similar to the one above, but cannot be modified with every private message.
Notify by e-mail when an Administrator/Moderator sends me a Private Message: If you selected "No" for the above field but would like to be notified of private messages from the site staff, this is your opportunity to do just that.
Display a pop-up window for new private messages: Pop-ups must be enabled on your computer for this to work. When you receive a private message, a pop-up window will appear notifying you.
Display a notification when new replies are written: If this is enabled, you will be notified when someone else posts a reply in a topic before you. To elaborate: If you are writing a reply to a topic at the same time as another person, the last person to hit "Send" will receive a notification giving them the post of the first replier. If your post no longer makes sense because of the order, you are given an opportunity to change it.
Open report pop-up for new reports/Notify me by e-mail if someone reports a post: These fields only affect staff members.
Always attach my signature: You must have a signature in order for this option to work. If you'd like your signature to be posted automatically with every one of your replies, select "Yes". Otherwise, you will have to manually select whether or not you want your signature to appear with each individual post.
Always allow BBCode: BBC Code, or BBCode, is what allows forum messages to be enhanced (bold, italics, images, links, etc.). Selecting "No" will disable these enhancements.
Always allow HTML: HTML is a more complicated code that also enhances members' posts. It is used less frequently on forums than BBCode.
Always enable Smilies: Disenabling smilies will keep your text from being automatically changed into emoticons. (Example: :D being replaced by )
Board Language: If you speak a language other than English, selecting your native language will automatically translate the forum. Translations may not be accurate. Note that this is an English-speaking forum and posts should be written in English.
Timezone: The official Forgotten Purrs timezone is EST (Eastern Standard). If your timezone is different, feel free to change it here.
Date format: Choose how the date will be written here.

Signature

Make sure you have the "Always attach my signature" setting in the Preferences tab selected.
A signature is a small amount of text that will appear after each of your posts. Images and links can also be placed in signatures.
This tab is where you can customize your signature if you would like one.

Avatar

An avatar, sometimes called a profile picture, is public to all members. It is a small image (150 x 200 pixels maximum) that is displayed alongside your username when you post. Avatars are not shown in the chatbox.

Upload an Avatar from your computer: If you have an image file saved on your computer that you would like to use as an avatar, this is the most efficient way to choose it.
Upload an Avatar from a URL: If you have the image location of a suitable avatar copied to your computer, paste it into this field and it will automatically be resized for you.
Link to an off-site Avatar: This option also requires you to have an image location copied to your computer. Unlike uploading an avatar from a URL, if you use this method, the image will not resize itself. If your avatar is over 150 x 200 pixels, you may be asked to resize it.
Select your Avatar from our Gallery: We have a small selection of avatars that are free for you to use. Choose "Show gallery" to browse these options.

Friends and foes

Your friends list can be made up of anyone with whom you regularly talk, or complete strangers if you'd like. All online friendships are mutual and must be accepted by both members. Your foes are members who cannot send you private messages. Foes' posts will also be hidden from you.

Friends list: This is a simple list of your current friends. You may remove someone from the list by clicking the minus sign (-) next to their username.
Add a friend: Type in the username of whomever you would like to be friends with. A request will be sent for their to approve or deny.

Requests sent: Here is a list of requested friendships that have been neither approved nor denied. You may withdraw one by clicking on the - next to a username.

Received requests: If someone is requesting to become friends with you, it will be shown here. Click on the + or - to accept or deny their request, respectively.

Foes list: A list of your current foes. Remove a member from this list by clicking the - next to their username.
Add a foe: Add a foe by typing in their username here. Staff members cannot be added as foes.

Notifications

This tab affects the toolbar that appears at the top of your page.

Receive a notification for: Select the events for which you would like to be notified. These notifications are not sent through e-mail, and can be seen on-site only.

Notifications: View a list of your current notifications here.

Topic(s) being watched

When you reply to a topic, it is automatically put on this list. You will be notified if another member replies to that topic.

The last column to the right allows you to select whichever topics you would like to stop watching. You can also choose to mark or unmark all.

Favourites

A list of your favourite topics. You can delete favourites by marking them on the rightmost column and saving.
